Yardling Five Takes Close Contest Against Eli Hoopsters by 51-41

Buckley and Rice Lead '42 Scoring Attack Against Yale

In a tight battle packed with beautiful shooting and defensive work, the Yardling hoopsters defeated the Yale Freshmen 51 to 41 in the Indoor Athletic Building Saturday evening. One of the closest in the season, it was either team's game until the fourth quarter with the Yardlings leading at the end of the torrid third period, 39 to 37.

Mike Rice and Ed Buckley paced the scoring efforts of the Crimson Freshmen. Buckley, who had been elected captain shortly before the game, filled the air with his long shots from all over the floor. Rice, high Crimson scorer, kept the Yardlings in the lead with his aggressive play and his many fast breaks.

The Elis put on a determined drive in the third quarter, reducing a six point Crimson lead at the beginning of the period to two points at the end. In the last quarter, the Yale team slumped, and the Yardlings built up a ten point lead.
