BOOKS COLLECTED FOR CHINA

Committee Wants to Send Much Needed Social Science Books

Steps were taken recently to collect books for distribution in western China, as a committee has been formed for that purpose following a letter from Mr. T. L. Yuan, the director of the National Library of Peiping, now situated in Yunnan, describing the need of books.

The purpose of the committee is to gather books to aid in the "upbuilding of a center of intellectual life beyond the reach of the present invasion." The committee is going to concentrate upon books in the social sciences.

The members of the committee are: John K. Fairbank '29, instructor in History, Kendrick N. Marshall '21, instructor in Government, Edward Y. Hartshorne '33, instructor in Sociology, and Donald H. Wallace, assistant professor of Economics.
