BERLIN--Authorized Nazi spokesmen said tonight that Germany still hopes to recover the American steamer City of Flint and its cargo of contraband despite refusal of the Norwegian Government to detain the vessel at Bergen after internment of its Nazi prize crew.
"Both Norway and Germany are studying the legal aspects of the situation, and beyond that there are no new developments," a source close to the Wilhelmstrasse said.
BERGEN, Norway--Captain Joseph A. Gainard of the American steamer City of Flint conferred tonight with Mrs. J. Borden Harriman, U.S. Minister to Norway, as to whether the ship will brave new dangers in the war zone or speed home to the United States.
The conference was held at the U.S. consulate after Capt. Gainard had broadcast to the United States an account of his ship's 26-day odyssey after its capture on Oct. 9 by the German pocket battleship Deutschland as a contraband carrier
