VARSITY BOOTERS LOSE GAME, 5 TO 4

YARDLINGS TRIUMPH

While the Varsity soccer team was taking a 5-4 defeat from the Swedish-American Club in a practice game, the Yardling booters nosed out Governor Dummer 1-0 in their season's opener Saturday afternoon on Soldiers Field.

The Crimson Varsity's loss to the Worcester club was a heartbreaker as the decisive tally was made by a Crimson substitute, Arthur Neff, who was playing for the opposing Swedish-American team, which was short of men. Mendell, Page and Neff all played consistently well for the Varsity; Page scoring twice, and Neff twice, once for the Crimson and once for the visitors.

Gonzales, of the Swedish-American outfit, considered one of the ace soccer players in the country, gave the Crimson plenty of trouble most of the afternoon but much of his brilliant work was offset by the remarkable saves of Penson, the Harvard goalie.
