ATHERTON PULLS TO WIN SENIOR SINGLES TITLE

Picker and Darcey Cross Line Second, While Sauerwein and Stowell Snag 155 Pound Honors

Finals for the annual University Sculling Regatta were concluded on the Charles Friday afternoon in a drizling rain. The highlight of the afternoon was the Senior Singles in which the ner and runner up of the Junior scullers held Thursday, competed.

Henry F. Atherton 1L snagged the first place as the Senior oarsmen neared the finish line, of the one mile course, while Harvey Picker, winer of the Junior Singles the day before, and Thomas J. Darcey '37, winner of the 155 pound competition last year, tied for the second berth.

Honors for the 155 pound singles this year went to Paul G. Saurwein '40 and second place was earned by Colles C. Stowell '39, who won their races by beating a closely pressing field of four oarsmen across the line.

Bringing in the best half-mile time of the afternoon, George T. Duff '40 pulled in for first place in the Novice Singles pushed by Joel C. Goldthwalt '40. In the narrow comps, Robert H. Fagerland '40' and William T. Cushwa '41 placed first and second.

Broad comps were led by Templeton Smith '40 over Harry S. Hammond, Jr. '41, and the wherry finals saw George F. Snell '41 and Norman W. Getsinger '41 in first and second place.
