Next Monday is Harvard Night at the Pops. The program will be divided into three parts, with a guest conductor for each group of pieces. First visiting maestro will be Ernest Hoffmann '18, who has proved his ability to many Cambridge music lovers in his former conducting of the State Symphony Orchestra. He will present a march by Strube called "Harvard Cruiser." This will be followed by von Weber's Overture to "Oberon," with Three German Dances by Mozart and Dvorak's "New World" Symphony bringing the group to a close.
G. Wallace Woodworth '24, director of the Glee Club, will then take the baton to lead four selections by the Glee Club. The first is Mozart's Music for Free Masons, with Joseph Lautuer '21 as soloist. Lautner accompanied the Glee Club on its Spring Trip and was well received at every concert.
The second vocal selection will be Randall Thompson's "Tarantella." Thompson, of the Class of 1920, wrote this piece for the Yale Glee Club last year. It is a lively composition, full of novel effects and boasting a brilliant piano accompaniment. On this same program the Boston Symphony will play another Randall Thompson work, the Finale of the Symphony No. 2.
Next in the second group will be Mozart's Canon: O Du Esclliafter Martin; and last of the vocal selections are choruses from Sullivan's Yeomen of the Guard. David P. MacAllester '38 will sing the solo.
Final guest conductor of the evening will be Leroy Anderson '29, well known here as former leader of the University Band. He will present the Dance of the Buffoons from Rimsky-Korsakov's "Snow Maiden," and Strauss's "Vienna Blood" Waltzes. Concluding the program is one of Anderson's own composition called Harvard Fantasy.
