Intercollegiate Air Meet Postponed by Bad Weather

Ripley Jones Wins the Paper-strafing Event in 16 Seconds

High winds and heavy showers caused the postponement of the New England Intercollegiate Flying Meet this weekend at Ensthampton, Long Island. At the time, the Harvard Club was leading.

Ripley O. Jones '39 won the first event of the meet on Saturday, the paper-straffing, in which in 16 seconds he twice cut a streamer of paper which had been dropped from an altitude of 2500 feet. His nearest competitor's time was 23 seconds.

In the second event, the 360 degree spot landing the object was to land as close as possible on the far side of a line, on the ground after crossing the line headed into the wind at an altitude of 1500 feet and throttling down the mator. Carl P. Wickstrom ap. was leading, having landed within 66 feet of the line, when strong gusts and a dangerously low ceiling halted the meet.
