Conservatives Dismiss Hart After Newspaper Statements

New Constitution Planned, Will Not Alter Basic Principles

Michael P. Grace '40, president of the Young Conservatives, yesterday announced a complete shakeup in the organization. The resignation of Merwin K. Hart, noted for his recent unauthorized statements to the newspapers, was accepted on the grounds of "incompatibility."

It was further determined to have no connection with Hart's National Conservative Youth Assembly in New York because of "uncertainty and possible public statements." Contrary to club policy, Hart opposed the appointment of Granville Hicks as extra-curricular counselor in American History.

Although there has been no change in officers, determination of club policy has been placed in the hands of the five chairmen of governing committees. Policy, Finance, Membership, College, and Publicity. Although a new constitution will be drafted, the basic purpose of the group will not be altered.
