In a hot, gusty, southwest wind which whipped up whitecaps in the Basin and swamped three dinghies, the crew of Stephen H. Squibb '40, skipper, and Arthur W. Page Jr. '40 won the elimination trials of the Harvard Yacht Club for the invitation meet at M. I. T., which will be held Sunday, yesterday afternoon.
The runner-ups, who will race if M. I. T. has enough boats to accomodate the 26 colleges invited to the meet, were Roger Willcox '41, skipper, and David C. Prince, Jr. '41.
Squibb and Page got off to a good start in the runoff after ten other boats had been eliminated and used their great weight to good advantage in sailing close to the wind on the long beat up to the finish line. The runners-up, a poor fourth at the start, gained steadily running before the wind.
