DEBATERS PLAN INTER-HOUSE MEETS TO GIVE ALL CHANCE SPEAK

MOVE MARKS NEW STAGE IN DRIVE TO BOOST DEBATING

First stop in the development of the Debating Council's plan of Inter-House debating for 1938-1939 is today's request that all undergraduates, except Seniors, interested in the proposed plan register at the House Dining Halls or the Union today at lunch or dinner or Wednesday at lunch.

Believing that many men, not in organized debating at present, are interested in an opportunity to acquire experience and facility in speaking, the council has proposed this plan for three leagues of debating to be set up in the Houses.

Each House will send a two-man team to League contests and House squads will be divided into three groups, one for each League. The membership of the teams will rotate among the members of the squads so every man will have the chance to speak at loast twice during a semester.

The Inter-House debates will be presented before local civic or religious groups and schools in order to give the experience of speaking to stimulating audiences. Decisions on the merits of the proposals and the debating skill will be voted by the audiences.

From the House teams the best men will be picked for the Council's intercollegiate and radio debates and its yearly trips. This is in line with the new policy of the Council to divide its members into Varsity and Jayvee squads. After "seasoning" in intra-Council debates, men have been promoted to the important contests.
