UNIVERSITY DISCARDS TIGHT NECKED GOWNS FOR SENIORS

The University Committee on Seals, Arms, and Diplomas has resolved that the tight-necked commencement gown now in use is very uncomfortable and not as dignified as the older type still used abroad.

So the older type with open front and the shorter knee length which does not wrap around the ankles is going to be used this year. The crimson piping, formerly used on the gowns of class officers, has been discarded on the grounds that it has no academic significance.
