"UNIVERSITY HOUR"

The plan to throw in an hour of shorts between regular programs, which starts tentatively at the University Theatre today, marks the realization of a fiendish scheme to please everyone. By going in just as the "University Hour" begins, the serious student who goes to be educated can enjoy an hour of transluxuriant entertainment and depart in peace. If he has paid more than a quarter for his seat, he can even get a refund.

The man who cannot be turned aside by shorts may stay and see the main feature immediately. He will not get any money back, but he will not have to sit through the B picture.

Today's Hour includes a Grantland Rice Sport-light, a Disney cartoon, a Pete Smith specialty, a short starring Charlie McCarthy, and two news-reels--Paramount and M.G.M.--edited to avoid overlapping. These will run for the rest of the week and similar programs will be shown every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and will be extended to the whole week if they prove successful.

Also on today's program is "Love and Hisses," Simone Simon's debut as a Singing Sensation. Actually, the merits of the picture are more on the comedy than the musical side, with Bert Lahr and Joan Davis doing a wonderful job. Peter Lorre's "Thank You, Mr. Moto!" is the companion piece. This would be a good enough bill, even without The Hour.
