RED LIGHT

Criticism is seldom levelled at a winning team, but with a mediocre or losing team, if the spirit and cooperative feeling of the group are at a low ebb, the case is different. Team spirit is shown in various ways. The attitude of the athletes toward each other and toward their followers, as well as toward their opponents, is generally a fair indication of that spirit. Observance of training rules is another indication, perhaps the most obvious one.

The man responsible for the team physically is the coach. He is also to be held accountable for the mental attitude of his players. They must respect him. When he shows that he is unable to control his team and his team's spirit, he should be removed far more quickly than a coach who, perhaps through lack of material, has been unable to garner a sizeable amount of victories.

Harvard may not have been noted for its victorious teams during the past few years, but it has been noted for team spirit. It would be unfortunate if this tradition were to be broken down.
