Issuing a call for batterymen to report next Monday in the Briggs Cage, Coach Fred Mitchell last night fired the opening gun of the 1938 baseball season. Last year's Varsity nine finished second in the Eastern Intercollegiate League and this season's team stands a good chance of finishing in the upper bracket.
Between 15 and 25 Varsity hurlers and receivers are expected to show up at the opening session with Ed Ingalls, leading twirler last year, and Slim Curtiss, Junior right hander, heading the delegation. Dave Shean, slow ball artist, Art Johns, who surprised many by winning the second Yale game last spring, and Don Prouty are the other letter winners who will be on hand.
Paul Doyle is the only letter receiver, but Bob Fulton and Ellie Bacon will be competing.
Coach Samborski of the Yardling nine also has asked '41 battery aspirants to show up Monday afternoon for their opening workout.
