By a vote of the Student Council last night the annual Freshman elections for class office will take place in the latter part of March and not in February. The change goes into effect with the present Yard group.
Among the powers of the Council is that of regulating and supervising all class elections. Among the bylaws of its constitution are found those for regulating Freshman elections.
To the bylaws a Council committee, comprised of J. Spence Harvin '39, Douglas Mercer '40, and Richard P. Hedblom '39 has devoted its attention and brought in a report accepted last night.
Prime purpose of the change will serve to give the Union Committee an added period in which to prosecute any additional Union activities for the benefit of the Class. At the same time the change will not interfere with any legitimate function of the three elected officers, and it will give the electorate additional time in which to consider its prospective candidates.
In previous years the Committee of the Council found that the Union Committee occasionally bogged down after the fall term.
Also at the Council meeting last night was submitted a Treasurer's report, while it was announced that $50 have been donated to the Community-Federation, Community Fund, in addition to a previous grant of $250. To the Cambridge Red Cross go $250 and to Phillips Brooks House $500 from Council funds. In explanation of the above report it was pointed out by the Treasurer that although the $100 item for a savings account was carried as an expense it might legitimately be considered an asset, and that therefore the total expenses to date are $3831.90 as compared with expenses of approximately $3920 at the same time last year. Also the ordin- ary commercial bank account stood at approximately $2700 at this time last year, compared with $3294 now. Although slightly over %6000 has been collected in pledges and cash to date, nearly $1000 already pledged is as yet uncollected, and those who are still unpaid were requested to send in their checks to the Student Council office at Phillips Brooks House as soon as possible
