First spray of the spring rowing season began to fly late yesterday afternoon when Coach Tom Bolles took a pickup crew out on the water.
With Bolles himself holding down the lighthouse position, the crew was an impressive combination of Varsity and former Varsity material. Roger W. Cutler '37 set the pace, with Paul Austin '37, Erickson '38, Tom Choate '37, John Senior '38, Jack Radway '38, and Lring Swaim '39 behind him. Eddie White '38 held the tiller ropes.
Tonight the Varsity and lightweight squads will meet in the Varsity Club at 7 o'clock when Tom Bolles will give the opening talk of the season, and Bert Haines will harangue the lightweights. Movies of the Yale races will also be shown.
Regular practice will not start until Monday when lineups will be posted. The Varsity squads will probably row on the tank for a few more days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the Freshmen taking over on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
