Clark Hodder's varsity hockey squad will open their 1938-39 ice campaign tonight when they face off with a favored Boston Junior Olympic team at the Boston Arena. The game begins at 8 o'clock.

The opening clash will take place as part of a doubleheader, with Boston College and Northeastern supplying the other half of the twin bill. The two games will be played in alternate periods, the Crimson and Olympics facing off first.

Olympics Strong Team

Although the Olympics lost to Yale on Saturday, they present a formidable line-up of former college and scholastic stars and will enter the game as favorites to take over Hodder's charges. Their New Haven defeat, a close 4 to 3 affair featured by two Olympic goals in the last four minutes of play, was not indicative of the Olympics' potential strength.

Austie Harding, Captain of the Crimson squad and generally considered the first man of Eastern College Hockey, will center the first line. With him on the wings will be Joe Patrick and Warren Winslow, both lettermen from last year's squad. Winslow scored the only Crimson goal against Yale in the final clash of the Eli series last season, while Patrick, who comes from a family of hockey greats, centered the first line in the same game.

Henry Ervin, Dave Eaton, and Walt Hennewell, another experienced trio, will form the second line. The probable starters in the third line will be Joe Willetts, Stacey Hulse and Bob Cox, a combination which has been kept intact from last year's Freshman squad.

Jameson, Houghton First Defense

Win Jameson and Charlie Houghton will open the game at the defense posts. Jameson played forward last year, but has been shifted back to the defense in an attempt to undo some of the damage done to that department by the graduation of such stalwarts as Russ Allen, Traff Hicks, and Gene Emerson. Houghton is the only player on the squad who won his letter at defense last season. Bob Perkins and Laurence Carstein will serve as alternate defensemen.

Starting at goal for the Crimson will be Dave Mittel, who supplanted Vint Freedley as netminder in all 3 Yale games last year. Freedley and Howard Johnson, both lettermen, may also see service.

The next game for Hodder's men after tonight's contest, will be against Southern California on Saturday night at the Arena. The Coast team, composed largely of imported Ganadian stars, should provide a very tough second encounter for the Crimson.
