WINTHROP, KIRKLAND WIN OVER DUNSTER, DUDLEY

House Football Season Starts With 6-0 Triumph by Puritans, and Deacons' 27-0 Victory

Winthrop and Kirkland jumped into an early lead in the House grid race yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field by winning their initial encounters, the Puritans toppling Dunster 6-0 and kirkland trouncing Dudley 27-0.

A Pioneer fumble, recovered by Winthrop fullback Jack Carpenter on Dunster's 18 yard stripe, led the way to Winthrop's single winning touchdown. The next play, a pass from Joe Peden to Ed Hindle, brought the Puritans to the 2. Here Dunster held, but on an exchange of kicks Ham Daughaday recovered a fumbled punt for the touchdown.

Dudley's Aerials Poor

Kirkland scored all of its points in the first half, partly because of inaccurate Dudley passing which led to frequent interceptions. Jack McClure and Earl Foster scored on line plunges to ring up the first two Deacon tallies.

Foster counted again a few moments later when he downed a kickoff in the Commuter end zone, Moore put the cover on with an 80 yard runback of an interception. The offense of neither team was outstanding until the last quarter, when Bullet Joe Kaufman ripped through the Kirkland line for goodsized gains.
