It was a considerably battered Varsity football squad which took the practice field yesterday afternoon following the fiercely fought Ithacan engagement Saturday. Hardest blow to the Harlowmen was the announcement that blocked Chief Boston is definitely out of the impending Army battle.
The "Chief" appeared on the field in street clothes, but the leg injury he sustained in the fourth period against the Big Red is evidently one of those unfortunate long-term affairs.
Some Monday Gloom
Boston's injury means that Harlow will be hard put to it at the blocking post Saturday, for Cliff Wilson is not a 60-minute man, and Frazier Curtis, third blocker, has very limited Varsity game experience--a few moments last Saturday being his only activity.
Joe Cardella, who loomed from the Cornell fray as a bright light on the bucking, spinning spot of the offense, and Jim Fearon, Russell's understudy at center, are at present in the infirmary with colds. Sensational Bill Coleman and Sophomore Don Lawry were absent in favor of scholastic pursuits, make-up exams et al. And Don Daughters and Captain Bob Green are sporting the latest model in football facials.
Green Grass and Sunshine
These are the gloomy spots. Brighter is the fact that guard Dave Glueck is back and set to go, although withheld from contact work yesterday. Brightest of all is the mental attitude of the players; not one trace of last week's pessimism is evident, for they all know they gave their best, and when the breaks come, they are going to show the experts that writing about the "finis of the Big Three" is a lot of what they put on the grass to make it grow.
The H.A.A. also came through with its ray of sunshine in their announcement that 25,000 seats have already been sold for the annual Cadet show, and a sell-out looms.
