Danicle Amfitheatrof will appear as guest conductor this evening in Sanders Theater as the Boston Symphony Orchestra returns to its home city. He will lead the orchestra again on Friday and Saturday, and will make another appearance in the shorter series the following Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon. For all concerts the program will be the same except that tonight Dukas's "L'Apprenti Sorcier" will replace the "American Panorama."

Well known in Europe as a composer, Mr. Amfitheatrof will present for the first time here his "American Panorama" on Friday. This music, written in 1933, is a tonal picturization of the American scene by one who at the time had never visited these shores.

Utilizing jazz rhythm, the work calls for a great deal of variety of percussion instruments, and for its melodic passages, three saxophones and a Hawaiian guitar.

The program will open with Rossini's Overture to "Semiramide," and also includes a Suite for String Orchestra, arranged from the string quintets of Luigi Boccherini. Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major will be the fourth selection.

Mr. Amfitheatrof opened the present season of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra as associate conductor under Dimitri Mitropoulis.

Menuhins Here Sunday

Hephizbah Menuhin will make her first bow in Boston when she appears in a joint recital with her brother Yehudi at Symphony Hall next Sunday afternoon. Hephzibah has attracted much attention by the few public appearances she has made, notably in New York. These appearances have been limited on acount of her youth.

The two young artists announce the following program for their Boston concert: Sonata No. 3 in E major, by Bach; Sonata No. 10 in G major, Opus 96, by Beethoven; Sonata in G major, by Lekeu.

Guy and Lois Maier Will Play Sundays

Next Sunday evening Guy Maier, internationally known concert pianist, and his wife Lois, who is also a pianist of some note, will be heard in a concert with the State Symphony Orchestra in Jordan Hall. Mr. Thiede will conduct the orchestra, and the Maiers will present Mozart's Double Concerto in E Flat major.

For many years associated with Lee Pattison in the concert team of "Pattison and Maier," Mr. Maier has enjoyed a long and successful career in the concert halls of this country, Europe and the Orient. He is now acting as Assistant to the National Director of the Federal Music Project.
