11 RIVERVIEW AVE. WILL BECOME PART OF PURITAN HOUSE

Move Results From Overapplication of Available Dormitory Openings; Widens Facilities

In a move to enlarge House accomodations, University Hall last night announced a plan to take effect next fall which will mean the annexing of a frame dwelling to Winthrop.

The official statement follows:

"In order to provide for a few additional undergraduates in the Houses which were heavily over-subscribed this spring, the residence owned by the University at 11 Riverview Avenue has been made a part of Winthrop House.

Annex to Be Connected

The building will be renovated by the Maintenance Department during the summer; the lot will be enclosed with a fence and an entrance will be made in the east end of Winthrop House so as to provide access for the men living at 11 Riverview.

Several of the other Houses have also found it possible to rearrange a few suites so as to accomodate several extra men. By these changes about fifteen men have been taken into the Houses above the number originally announced at the time of the first assignment."

Houses Overapplied

Originally this spring 1017 students applied for admission to the upperclass dormitories with 583 gaining admittance. Explanation of the discrepancy lay in the almost record number of applications as against an unusually small number of vacancies. The Class of 1938 is a bigger than average group as found in the Houses.
