A lusty recrudescence of house spirit par excellence occurred yesterday evening at 7 o'clock, as a joyous band of Deacon musicians cut loose in a riotous jam session in the Kirkland courtyard in celebration of a triple victory in crew, baseball, and tennis, by which the Deacons clinched the Straus interhouse trophy.
The impromptu concert was led by drum-major George F. Lowman '38, high-scoring forward of the crimson basketeers, and was witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd of house residents who thronged the court and hung out of windows.
Featured in the ebullient swingfest, which was furnished mostly by trumpets and clarinets, were an inspired drummer who performed on a wastebasket and a stick, and William G. Hewitt '38, who played the zither. The program included "Wintergreen", "Organ Grinder's Swing" and several Harvard songs, and ended with a triumphant snake-dance.
