Two undergraduates will represent the college at the annual meeting of the National Civil Service Reform League in New York tomorrow. The purpose of the meeting is to start plans for organizing chapters of the League among each of the group of thirty colleges sending delegates.
Russell J. Stern '38, a member of the Council of Government Concentrators, and Cleveland Amory '39, assignment editor of the CRIMSON, will be the Harvard representatives at the gathering, which is to take place at the Commodore Hotel at 12:30. Stern and Amory were chosen by a Student Council committee composed of John B. Bowditch '37, President, and Charles M. Storey, Jr. '37.
LaGuardia to Speak
Speakers at the meeting include Mayor LaGuardia and Undersecretary of the Interior Charles West. According to the telegram sent by the League to President Conant, the sponsors are working "to develop constructive interest in public service."
Dean Hanford has the following statement to make concerning the League: "The Civil Service Reform League is a reputable organization with a long and useful history. It has fought most of the important battles for the merit system in this country."
President of the League is Robert L. Johnson. Vice-presidents include James R. Angell, Newton D. Baker, Charles C. Burlingame, Robert Catherwood, Howard R. Guild, William B. Hale, Ogden H. Hammond, A. Lawrence Lowell '77, George McAneny, Charles P. Taft, 2nd, and Russell Whitman.
