COUNCIL SETS HOCKEY RINK BALL IN MOTION

HICKS, BLODGET, HARDING, AND KENNEDY ARE MEMBERS

"To investigate and foster the possibility of a future Harvard hockey rink," the Student Council last night appointed a continuing committee on the third resolution in its athletic report of March 26.

That resolution brought into the foreground the much felt need for an enclosed artificial ice rink to stand on Soldiers Field. Such a rink, once built, could be expected largely to pay for itself from receipts and to open skating to Crimson teams.

The burning question is where the money necessary to erect a Harvard rink could come from. That is what the committee appointed last night will endeavor to determine.

C. Russell Allen '38, Council member and hockey letterman, heads the new body. Working with him will be S. Trafford Hicks, Jr. '38, captain of the 1938 sextet, Alden S. Blodget '38, manager, F. Austin Harding, Jr. '39, letterman, and Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. '38, Student Council member.

Five hundred thousand dollars will build a rink to seat 5,000 spectators. Two hundred thousand, it is estimated would provide a practice arena without seating facilities.
