WHITEHEAD TO REMAIN AS FELLOW NEXT YEAR

PROFESSOR NOCK APPOINTED TO SENIOR SOCIETY

Alfred North Whitehead, Professor of Philosophy, will continue as a Senior Fellow of the Society of Fellows after he retires from active teaching at the end of this academic year and becomes Professor Emeritus.

The appointment of Arthur Darby Nook, Frothingham Professor of the History of Religion to the Society of Fellows increases the number from seven to eight. The other six members are President Conant, President Lowell, Dean George David Birkhoff '04, of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Perkins Professor of Mathematics; John Livingston Lowes, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of English Literature; Lawrence J. Henderson '98, professor of Biological Chemistry, who is the Chairman; and Samuel Eliot Morison '08, professor of History.

Every year the Senior Fellows select several outstanding younger men who become Junior Fellows and frequently meet and dine with the older group.
