CHIEF BOSTON THROWS DROPS AND FAST BALL

Fullback Makes First Appearance in Baseball Clothes; Mitchell Sends Infields Through Drill

Possibility of a new pitching find loomed in Briggs Cage yesterday as Clarence M. Boston, Jr. '39, better known on the gridiron, demonstrated his speed and drop to Varsity coaches. Though he has experience in summertime ball, this was Boston's first formal appearance in a Harvard practice.

In infield drill Frank Owen was working at third in the first aggergation, with Captain Tom Bilodeau, Art Johns, Dave Shean, and Paul Doyle at short, second, first, and catching positions respectively. Phil Staples caught for the second outfit with Mal McTernen, John Sullivan. Dave MacIntosh, and Bill Lee filling in.

Besides Boston, Wednesday of the first week of squad practice found numerous new prospects in action. Chief among them are Body Gannett, Jack Cunningham, and Jojo Soltz, outfielders of last year's Freshmen. With Mal McTernen, and Jim Sullivan, veterans, these men bring Mitchell's garden roster to its approximate full strength. Gannett's status remains a team question mark for a time. Fast afield and second ranking hitter on the undefeated 1939 Yardlings, the Milton boy was disabled with a bad leg during the first half of this year. If, as he expects, his leg holds up, observers believe Crimson outfield problems will be substantially solved.
