By a vote of 16-14, the State Senate yesterday passed the Teachers' Oath Repeal Bill to be engrossed and returned to the House. A tie would have meant the Bill's shelving.
The deciding vote was cast by Senator Joseph A. Langone who is thought to be against the Bill and trying to place the burden of the decision on Governor Hurley.
A possible future trouble-maker was tagged on to the Bill in the form of an amendment which would allow teachers to retract the oath they had taken when the law was in force, by appearing before the person who had administered it to them, and filing their retraction at the State House.
