It is with the greatest confidence and happy anticipation that Yale can look forward to the administration of Charles Seymour, for to the position as President of a great University a man must bring not only a brilliant and scholarly mind but also ample proof of his executive ability to deal with educational problems, Mr. Seymour possesses these first two qualifications in abundance, and his background of education at Yale and service to it fits him additionally for the task.

Mr. Seymour's experience as provost has provided him with a knowledge of Yale's needs and possibilities which will be immensely valuable to the man who is to shape her policies in the years to come. It has given him close contact with the faculty and the corporation. And from this position he has been able to get a first-hand understanding of Yale, which must always be a part of her President's equipment.

As Sterling Professor of History and Master of Berkeley College he has consistently won the admiration and affection of the men under him in such a way as to leave no doubt in their minds concerning the wisdom of the choice. Many questions have been raised recently as to whether or not Yale is too conservative an institution in this liberal age. On this account the policies of the new President will be watched eagerly for a chance to cry "Mosback". And here again Yale is fortunate in the choice of Mr. Seymour, for by his eager interest in all the manifold fields of Yale's research work he has shown himself possessed of young interests which should maintain Yale's progressive tradition. Those who do not know Mr. Seymour will see in his election a fitting reward for long years of service to Yale and exceptional ability displayed in that service.
