Kirkland's rampaging football forces all but clinched the House championship when they defeated the challenging Eliot eleven by a score of 7-0 yesterday on Soldiers Field.
In the other game played, a blocked kick and a Conroy to Kernan pass was enough to give Lowell a 12-0 win over a much improved Dunster outfit.
Aerial Tally
The Deacons outplayed the Elephants throughout the feature encounter. The fast charging Kirkland ends, John Wood and Bob Snyder, completely disrupted the Eliot offense, while Wiley Mayne, Dick Wills, and Jack McClure ripped through large holes in the Elephants' defense. The lone score of the tilt came in the first period on a long pass from Wills to McClure with the latter running 30-yards to the pay territory. Wills kicked the point.
In the final period Kirkland pushed down to the very shadow of the Eliot goal, but a 15-yard penalty averted a touchdown. Kicking from his own 35 yard line, Wills attempted a field goal, but the boot lacked legs.
Footnotes
Before the game the Kirkland band attempted to discourage the Eliot boys by marching right into the Merrimanland court. When they tried to march out toward the field, however, they found that an unidentified Elephant had barred the gate. There was confusion.
Roger B. Merriman '96, Master of Eliot House, who watched the encounter was advised that a Kirklander who had just made a long run was taking History 1. Said Merriman, "Remind me to give him an E."
