FOUR UPPERCLASSMEN OBTAIN SCHOLARSHIPS

Davis, Fels, Cummings, and Webster Receive Grants for Excellence in Various Academic Fields

Four upperclassmen were awarded scholarships totaling $1,400, it was announced yesterday.

Richard T. Davis '38, of Medford, won the Charles J. Bonaparte scholarship awarded "at the end of his Junior year to that member of the class concentrating in Government who has the highest academic standing in that subject." He was also the recipient of the Palfrey Exhibition scholarship, for the most distinguished scholar in the Senior class receiving a paying scholarship.

The Wendell Phillips Memorial was awarded to Rendigs T. Fels '39, of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is given to a Junior who shows "promise of becoming a real force as a public speaker."

Two George Emerson Lowell scholarships, awarded on the basis of a competitive examination under the Department of Classics, were won by Robert J. Cumming '38, of Banger, Maine, and Walter W. Webster '39, of Worcester.
