J. Spence Harvin '39 was named member in charge of Freshman affairs at the first meeting of the Student Council in Phillips Brooks House last night. His duties will include the selection of an assistant from the Sophomore Class, the selection of a Red Book chairman, and conferring with Yard authorities on the selection of the 1941 Union Committee.
Other business at the meeting included scholarship awards and appointment of a committee for investigation of charges arising from the collection last spring of funds for a Harvard ambulance in Spain.
Earners in a total of $375 of financial aid towards the first term bill are Bernard F. Kamins '38, Frederick W. Jerome '38, Karl M. Davies '39, and Malcolm R. Wilkey '40. The last two, of whom wilkey is now regularly enrolled here, had been unable to take up residence in China under terms of Lignan Scholarships.
Caspar W. Weinberger '38 will head the Scholarship Aid Committee for the coming year, while Wiley E. Mayne '38 takes charge of proceedings in relation to the mercy wagon.
With Weinberger are Richard O. Ulin '38, Edward L. Barnes '38, and Richard H. Sullivan '39. With Mayne are Vernon H. Struck '38, Oliver P. Bolton '39, Robert M. Bunker '39, and Charles L. Burwell '39.
