While waiting for the instructor to appear, a confident Yardling struck up a conversation with a fellow in the class on the subject of swimming. Admitting that he was fairly good at the sport, the Freshman advanced theories which the other man hotly opposed. "Why", said the Freshman, "I'll bet ten dollars that I can swim the suit off you at fifty yards". The bet accepted and the date arranged, the natators mentioned to each other their best times for the distance, fifty four seconds by the Freshman and twenty three by his rival. "When you go down to the pool", said the stranger as he went off, "ask for Charlic Hutter."
