Major prize awards to undergraduates were announced today, as follows:
James Gordon Bennett Prize, of $100, for the best essay on American governmental policy of contemporaneous interest, to Robert C. Hall '36, of Brookline.
Philo Sherman Bennett Prize, of $50, for the best essay discussing the principles of free government, to Harold Winkler '36, of Lawrence.
History and Literature Prize, of $50, to the member of the Junior class in Harvard College who shows the greatest promise in the field of History and Literature, to Howard F. Schemer '37, of Oak Park, Illinois.
Sumner Prize, of $450, for the best dissertation dealing with means or measures tending towards the prevention of war, to Joseph F. Knowles '36, of New Bedford.
Wister Prize, of $50, to the student who passes his examinations with the highest combined average in mathematics and music, to Egbert W. Fischer '36, of Butte, Montana.
Winthrop Sargent Prize, of $150, for the best essay relating to Shakspere, to Melvin L. Barnet '36, of Yonkers, N. Y.
Philip Washburn Prize, of $140, for the best thesis on an historical subject, to Rodman W. Paul '36, of Milton.
