Golf Material Good

With the best material at hand that he has had to work with in his three years as golf coach here, Clark Hodder looks forward to a bright season, overshadowed only by the Yale blue. Though four members of last year's Varsity will represent the Crimson this year, Yale's veteran outfit picked from over 300 applicants is expected to place first in the northern division of the Eastern Intercollegiate League.

Hunter Number One

At the close of the second of three days of preliminary match play, Captain Robert C. Hunter, Jr. '36 is seeded number one man and will lead the Crimson in its first match with Brown and Holy Cross tomorrow. Lynford Lardner, Jr. '36, member of last year's Varsity, will be able to play only against Yale as other matches conflict with divisional examinations.

George E. Enos '37 and Charles S. Bellows '37, both veterans of last year's team, will play in positions two and three respectively. Enos has made a poor showing this spring, being unable to break 80 in official practice, while Bellows has been averaging about three strokes better than his teammate.

Sophomore Shows Well

A Sophomore, Lewis A. McGowan '38, has qualified to play as number four man, turning in cards ranging from 71 to 77. Though McGowan didn't compete for his Freshman team last year, he has been playing spectacular golf. Mansfield Branigan '36 completes the list of veteran players, and will in all probability rank fifth this year.

Number six man will be chosen from among seven Sophomores who have been competing in preliminary matches for the past three days. Led by Louis Allis, Jr. and Norman Mendleson both of whom recorded 78 in unofficial practice, are Frederick I. Olson, Alvah N. Pierce, Archibald McG Foster, Volney W. Foster, and James D. Brown. Those six men who are unsuccessful will comprise the Jayvee team.

Freshmen Unpromising

With only seven men trying for the team Freshman prospects are rather gloomy. William L. Calfee has shown best in practice; while Louis P. Roewer, John L. Barr, Jr., and Claudius J. Byrne, Jr. are expected to develop into first team material.
