At the close of the present year the Union Barber Shop will cease to exist, it was learned yesterday. No longer will the Yardlings be able to enjoy haircuts and shaves in the privacy of their dinning hall and the convenience of paying for such on their term bills.
It is believed that the action was taken because University officials felt that the operation of a commercial enterprise should not be allowed to take place in a tax-exempt building.
George A. Condon, manager of the shop, was willing to go to any extreme in order that his thriving business might be continued. According to him, between six and seven thousand customers make use of his emporium during the course of the college year, and he considers 40 haircuts a day about average. Condon revealed that the barber shop has been in operation since the building of the Union.
