Although the 66th annual and special Tercentenary session of the Harvard Summer School has been dedicated principally to adult education, students will find wide opportunities to study under non-Harvard, American professors and under European and Eastern men.
Kirtley F. Mather, director of the school, has expressed the opinion that the Summer School was the logical medium through which to bring together educators of today and adults active in the affairs of the day. To further this plan he has enlisted a noted group of educators from all over the world.
At present 190 courses are planned, 45 of which will be given by visiting professors. Each Summer School course counts for credit towards a degree.
In the field of Astronomy Professor Mather has obtained the services of four non-Harvard men. Dr. Knut Lundmark, University of Lund, will come from Sweden to give a course on "The Problems in the History of Astronomy"; Dr. Meghnad Saha, University of Allahabad, India, will lecture on "Astrophysical Problems". Two men from the Mount Wilson Observatory, California, Dr. Cecilia H. P. Gaposchkin and Dr. Paul W. Merrill, will give a course on Variable Stars.
Economics Courses
A distinguished list of men will give the courses in Economics, including Fritz Machlup of Buffalo and Eliot Jones of Stanford, and members of the Harvard faculty.
Special advanced courses are being offered in 15 different subjects, ranging from the classics to history or mathematics. General survey courses will be given in nearly all the elementary subjects.
The registration fee to enroll in the Summer School is $5, and the charge for most of the courses $25. Board and lodging may be obtained in the yard dormitories for a price ranging from $68 to $128, depending upon the type of suite selected. Complete details will be in the Summer School catalog, to be published May 15.
