Calloway's Rhythm Draws 500 Dancers to Kirkland

Two nationally famous orchestras drew a crowd of 200 couples and 100 stags to the Kirkland House Spring Dance last night. Cab Calloway and his original Cotton Club orchestra were featured, with Irving Aaronson's Studebaker Commanders, 15-piece broadcasting band formerly with Bing Crosby, alternating during the Cab's intermissions. Dancing ran from 10 to 3, with a buffet supper after midnight.

Benny Falls to Arrive

Jack Benny and Mary Livingston, noted radio and stage comedians now in Boston for a week's engagement at the Metropolitan Theatre, were said to have made arrangements to drop in at the dance, but at 11.45 o'clock there was no Jack Benny to be found.

The patronesses were Mrs. Walter E. Clark, Mrs. G. D. Birkhoff, Mrs. Albert C. Hanford, Mrs. Huntington Brown, Mrs. M. H. Stone, Mrs. W. K. Jordan, Mrs. E. F. Langley, and Mrs. W. P. Maddox.

Sawyer Acts as Head Usher

Henry B. Sawyer, Jr. '36, baseball manager and former chairman of the Entertainment Committee, was head usher. Assisting him as ushers were John L. Clark '36, Richard S. Keene '38, Arthur Notman, Jr. '37, Robert W. Snyder '38, Archer P. W. Trench '37, and Cyrus C. Wells '36.
