"The Country Doctor" Entertaining Throughout; "Every Saturday Night" for Queer Fathers

We liked "The Country Doctor" even though it does turn into a baby show at the end. The audience cannot fail to be sympathetic with the portrayal of Doctor Dafoe given by Jean Hersholt and the supporting cast is excellent throughout. The quints have emerged from the process of mass production creditably and all do as well as the ordinary baby stars.

Dorothy Peterson's efficient common-sense provides the suitable background for the doctor's homely philosophy and Slim Summerville is an amusing although unconvincing country constable. Thomas Qualen carries through his biggest assignment as a proud father with great success while June Lang and Michael Whalen both turn in good bits in their unfortunately brief appearances.

"Every Saturday Night" may appeal to those of you who are fathers and mothers. The story is the same as always. The kids drive the father half nuts because he is too strict with them. A couple of them get hurt, however, and in the throes of worry he repents and becomes the model pater familias. It is all entirely commonplace except for June Lang and Spring Byington.

The Grantland Rice "Sportslight" is quite interesting and the "Audioscopiks" are rather fun. The latter are merely the stereoscopic pictures of about twelve years ago revived with the addition of sound.
