Old Man Winter, usually optimistic for weekend skiers, is doubtful that conditions will be favorable this time. General rain over New England has washed away seven inches of snow from the White Mountains leaving but 14 at the summit of Washington and 39 in Pinkham Notch.
Avalanches and snowslides are common throughout the region and the Highway Department is working day and night to clear the roads now impassable with snow and ice.
Latest reports show that the roads north of Manchester, New Hampshire are flooded with the water constantly rising and new high levels are expected before the torrents subside.
The forecast predicts light rain to snow flurries and colder in New Hampshire and Vermont. Fresh westerly winds changing to north.
