Henry Munroe Rogers '62, Harvard's oldest living graduate, is celebrating his ninety-seventh birthday today.
"The greatest difference between the college of today and of my time is the size of the classes," he said. "There were just 99 Seniors in 1862, while this year there are 800!"
Rogers served in the Civil War, and in 1869 was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar Association, of which he is also believed to be the oldest member.
He is looking forward to carrying out the invitation of Charles Francis Adams '88 to be a marshal at the Tercentenary Celebration next fall. The following spring will bring his seventy-fifth class anniversary.
