Three advanced courses in composition may be counted toward a degree, the English Department has announced. This change is in response to complaints of students interested in developing their writing ability, and who felt that two creative courses, the previous number allowed, was inadequate.

English concentrators, however, may count only two composition courses toward concentration, the third may be taken as an elective. Since only six courses in the field of concentration are required, the Department feels that more than half of these must be literary in order to prepare for divisionals.

Candidates for honors will not be affected by the change, only one composition course will be allowed in their concentration program.

Murray Will Give Shakespeare

Another change is the expansion of English 23 into a full course, developing it into the only undergraduate Shakespeare course for next year. J. Tucker Murray '17, professor of English, will be in charge, and will cover Shakespeare's complete works.

Rotating Instruction

In order that period courses may be offered every year, the English Department plans to have instruction in them rotate among members of the staff. They have previously been given biennially because of the limitations courses of this nature impose upon the professor in charge.
