Paced by Bill Kendall, who established a new Freshman record of 24.4 seconds in the 50-yard free style event, the Yardling swimming team inaugurated its season last night in the Indoor Athletic Building by defeating the Lynn Y.M.C.A. 45-20.
Kendall's mark bettered by 2 of a second the former pool record of 24.6 The former Australian Olympic star also fulfilled advance notices by winning the 100-yard free style swim.
The Yardlings captured five first places out of the eight events. Besides Kendall's twin victories, the 220-yard relay team of Bayard, Dillingham, Edwin Goldwasser, Bob Urquhart, and Fred Griffen, Eric Cutler in the 200-yard free style, and George Dana in the dive turned in victories for the Crimson.
Other men who scored points for the Yardlings follow: Fred Griffen in the 50-yard free style, Bill Rines and Henry Kaplan in the 100-yard breast stroke, Henry Curwen in the 100 and 200-yard free style, Henry Southwick in the 100-yard back stroke, and Chester Sagenkhan in the dive.
This was the first meet for Larry Pederson new Freshman coach, who commented, "I am very well pleased with the performance of the team."
