MAINTENANCE MEN WORK TO UPHOLD BANKS OF CHARLES

Recognizing forces of erosion at work, Boston maintenance men appeared on the banks of the Charles yesterday in the city's first move to save the point by the Weeks Bridge from undercutting by the river.

With the purpose of keeping the waters to their present meander, the plan now is to cut back the bank slightly and lay a stone course on the stream's edge between the Larz Anderson and electric company bridges on the Boston side.

A full squad of men was on hand yesterday, cutting away turf and putting down leg buffers over rocks which will have to be blasted out of the river's edge in preparation for blasting.
