With the preliminary outdoor tryouts for Freshmen drawing to a close, the first phase of polo work for the current year ends. Next Monday, November 16, the indoor campaign gets under way in the Commonwealth Armory when the freshmen will be given ten days of intensive work prior to final squad selections. After a break of two weeks, due to the Cavalry Horse Show in the Armory, both Varsity and Freshmen squads will begin training for the winter's competition.
The Varsity squad includes Captain Allen T. Winmill '37 and Francis S. von Stade '38 from last year's outdoor championship team, which eked out victories over two favored rivals, Yale and West Point. In addition there will be Paul F. Fox '37, Frederick Ayer, Jr. '37 and Adrian H. Malone '37 who campaigned as Jayvees.
Three teams represented the college, one in each of the three Commonwealth Polo Association Leagues, the Varsity being in Class A, JVs in Class B and Freshmen in Class C. Each team usually plays four to six league games. In addition the Varsity plays Yale, Army, and a couple of out of town team and enters the Intercollegiate Tournament in New York. The JV's meet Army and one or two other teams while the Freshmen play Yale.
