TEACHERS' UNION PLANS STATE-WIDE EXPANSION

WALSH WILL BE IN GENERAL CHARGE OF STATE DRIVE

With the decision to extend teacher's union organization to school teachers throughout the state, the Harvard, M.I.T. branch of the American Federation of Teachers adjourned to meet next Wednesday.

Other locals of the Federation in Massachusetts are located in Lawrence, New Bedford, and a new group in Boston. There admit elementary and high school teachers. In addition there is a Western Massachusetts College Teachers group, composed mainly of Smith College professors. Officials of the Harvard group admitted that compared to such states as Ohio and New York, this is poor showing. However, at the convention of the Federation last August it was voted that funds should be made available for organization work on a regional basis. According to this plan Massachusetts will receive a sum from the national organization to extend memberships.

J. Raymond Walsh, Instructor of Economics, and regional director of the American Federation of Teachers, is in general charge of the organization work throughout the state.
