As the first week of intensive Intramural football practice got under way yesterday, House teams faced a handicap in lack of men. Rainy weather last week has already caused a delay in the dates of opening games, by interfering with early practices.

Games scheduled for Thursday and Friday have been postponed, and the season will open next Tuesday with Winthrop meeting Dunster and Kirkland clashing with Dudley eleven.

Kirkland, under the coaching of Harvard D, White '32, has made outstanding progress and even at this early date looms as a potential threat to Winthrop's gridiron supremacy, George T. Cushman '37, a triple threat back, sizes up as the outstanding member of this squad.

Running through signals yesterday, the tentative Kirkland team was made up of the following men: backs, Wiley E. Mayne '38, Richard H. Wills, Jr. '38, George F. Stubbs, Jr. '38, and Donald W. Davis, Jr. '37; ends, Robert W. Snyder '38, and Ray W. Tripp, Jr. '38; tackles, William G. Hewitt '38, and Stephen A. Reed, Jr. '38; Hendrick K. Arnold '39 and Martin S. Erlanger '38 have been working for guard and center posts respectively. A light team will probably be fielded, but it promises to be a good one.

Adams Has New Coach

Last year's popular Adams House coach, Donald L. Hassenfratz 3L, has been forced to resign this year because of pressure of studies. But Adolph W. Samborski '26, Director of Intramural Athletics, has obtained another seemingly competent man, R. B. Wolf 1L, to handle the Gold Coastors.

Champion Winthrop made a good showing yesterday, but not many of last year's winners are still in the aggregation, with the exception of Chester W. MacArthur '37; veteran of many battles.

Eliot House had a full team for the first time yesterday and began work, in earnest, with their hopes centering chiefly on the veterans John J. Witherspoon '37 at tackle and William W. Waters '37 in the backfield. Several promising sophomores have also reported for practice.
