Student Council Resolution Asks University Reject "Woman" Law

Council Action Was Delayed for President, Who Returns Next Week from Europe

Acting in advance of President Conant's return from Europe next Monday, the Student Council last night passed a resolution asking for the repeal of the "one sole woman" parietal rule and a revision and standardization of the old rule.

The Council resolution reads:

"In recognition of inconveniences to undergraduates living in the Houses due to the preset parietal rule requiring a second woman to be present during the reception of a woman guests in the rooms, and also in recognition of the general feeling of the undergraduates against said rule, it is respectfully recommended that said rule requiring the attendance of a second woman be repealed, and that the parietal rules, relating to the entertainment of women guests then be revised and standardized."

No specific recommendations for a revised ruling were suggested by the Council, it being understood that any proposals would be submitted at a later date.

This action of the Council follows on three or more weeks of active discussion of the rule. House Masters, house committees, and other groups have considered the question from every angle, the net conclusion being that the rule was unnecessary.
