Budget Slash of One-Third Forced on Student Council

Brooks House, Needy Students Suffer As Pledges Lag Behind

Only $3,800 was collected from undergraduates for the Student Council budget over the weekend, Thomas H. Quinn '36, president, announced last night. Since but $3,000 remain outstanding in pledges of which a certain proportion will not be collected, the Student Council must cut its budget from $9,000 to $6,000.

The Student Council divides its money in three ways, between scholarships to needy students, an appropriation to Phillips Brooks House for charitable work, and class expenses.

Although no statement was forthcoming on the nature of the prospective slashes, it seems likely that each of the three grants must undergo the axe. The final decision will not be reached until the Council holds its first meeting early next week.
