Races in House Leagues Enter Final Stretch

Completing six games in the last three days, the House teams swung into the crucial period in the season. It appears that Brooks and Winthrop Houses are the only contenders for the baseball championship, and that they will be battling right down the line. Each of these teams is as yet undefeated, Winthrop taking over Leverett Wednesday, while Brooks easily conquered Adams today. The game between the two Houses was scheduled for Monday, April 15, but was postponed because of weather. The most important game of the season will come when these two teams get together within the next few days.

The race in the tennis league is even closer with Lowell, Brooks, and Winthrop each undefeated and each having three games to play. It appears that no other team can enter into the running in this competition. Kirkland House has entered no team in this league. Wednesday Lowell House beat Eliot, and yesterday Lowell beat Dunster, but these games make no vital difference to the leaders.

On the links Adams has the advantage, leading Winthrop by a game. The Gold Coasters seem to have the race in the bag here. Lowell has only a mathematical chance of overtaking them. If Adams is to lose, it must lose its last match, and Lowell must win its next two. Adams will almost undoubtedly make the trip to New Haven unless the whole team comes down with the measles.

Winthrop beat Dunster yesterday on the Trapelo course to strengthen its hold on second place, but its only possible chance is a tie for first place, while a finish in third place is not improbable.

The fight for the championship in tennis is complicated additionally by the scoring system. The final standing will be determined on the number of individual matches won rather than on the showing of the team as a whole.
