To the Editor of the CRIMSON:
I should like to be among the first to protest against the new policy of the H.A.A. with regard to the time of the league baseball games. It would seem that the H.A.A. has assumed from the size of the crowds which have attended the games in the past that there are no undergraduates who are at all interested in the fate of the Crimson team.
In any event, the new time of some of the games this-year shows such an utter disregard for the convenience of undergraduates living in the Houses, that one would suspect that the game is no longer for the college, but for outside spectators.
And the H.A.A., judging from the attendance at the game today, is wrong in the assumption that a larger number will attend if the game is held at the hybrid hour, of 5 o'clock. The meagre attendance composed largely of the schoolboys who were guests, indicates more poignantly than words that undergraduates will not go to games that interfere with supper, with afternoon activities, and with evening's plans.
Five o'clock is neither afternoon nor evening. The game cannot be termed an afternoon game nor a twilight contest. The hour chosen, since the game lasts until 7 o'clock or after, completely occupies the dinner hour in the Houses.
I think, therefore, that the H.A.A. should be informed that if it wishes the game to remain a college and undergraduate game it should readjust the time to fit the other demands of the students. George S. Franklin, Jr. '36.
